Where Chile Meets Bolivia

While exploring the Atacama desert, the driest desert in the world, I was surprised by the amount of life we found.  This region is significant as it was once part of Bolivia until the War of the Pacific in the late 1800s when Chile took claim of the land.  Not only is this extreme landscape rich in mining resources, 27% of the world’s lithium is here, but by losing this land in the war, Bolivia also became a landlocked country, losing its only coastline.
